Humid, sweltering summer temperatures hung over the anubites' tribeland, making the distant pewter walls that surrounded the cotton downs look soft and welcoming, like some type of feather bed. Much closer, the arch snapped and shimmered, dancing for the heat waves. Painful temperatures radiated off of the structure, the gold shining bleakly towards the skies as though pleading for release from the burning sensations.
Kaoru panted unhappily, stretching his midnight-dark wings and flinched as his short, plush fur came away wet with sweat. The anubite did not want to image how he smelled; and didn't really care. He was looking around for the alpha, having left his birds back at the fringe of the forest where it was cooler. They would be better of there for the time being, Kaoru figured, until he found the alpha.
Wherever they were.
He growled, smacked himself in the dial with a gold-clawed paw, and loped off in the direction of the pretty golden arch he'd seen earlier; thinking morbid thoughts about heatstroke as likely as not. When he finally got there Kaoru sighed, and sat down on the steps.
To leap of with a yelp, landing in a pile of anubite which quickly regained its feet. Gray eyes glared accusingly at the gold steps, which had baked his bottom. Damn . . .

Upon hearing this, Her head snapped the direction of the yelp. The excitement of finding someone in this desolate hell-hole was total excitement for this sugary female. Could it be the alpha? There was a chance.
The wind on her face was a big help to the heat burning right through her thick fur. She wanted to shave it all off by this point. She felt like she was going to die. the unbearable heat was not good for her fur anyway. it would be frizzled when she stopped, but when she would be accepted into a home, she could always groom it later.
Hello? She panted quickly and loudly. She was out of breath and unhappy, but she wanted a home. Instead, she found...Some scrawny guy with feathered wings? God...he looks like a mess. This isn't the alpha is it?! I always thought alphas were supposed to be handsome and strong, like some super hero or something... You wouldn't happen to be the owner of these lands would you? She attempted polite, but instead it came out somewhere between frustrated, tired, and disappointed.

. . .
Kaoru glared at her, not even trying to be understanding. He was overheating, burned, and angry. Bright, almond-shaped purple eyes glared daggers at the white femme; overlooking he beauty for the moment in his urge to vent on someone. The tone of her voice stung, black velvets drew up over pearly white fangs in anger at her probing gaze. He didn't like being looked over. He didn't like it at all, especially not now.
No. And since you're asking I'll take it for granted that you aren't!
The anubite snapped in a slightly feminine tenor, sighing afterwards and aking several deep breaths. Pale purple lamps opened again, a little of the anger was gone, replaced by bitterness.
Sorry, sorry that isn't much of a way to treat a stranger. No, I'm not the leader of these lands. He shrugged, wincing at the ache in his wings. They were very sore from being held away from his body, and the brute was sure he had a sunburn beneath the neat layer of plush fur. Normally Kaoru looked elegant, handsome, regal. At the moment he looked haggard.

The anubite sighed and looked at the floor. clumps of dirt and disgusting ants nearly covered what seemed to be the painted gold tile of the Arch.
Qa Cleared her throat and looked back up at her company. I suppose I'm sorry too. This unbearable heat is doing awful things to my coat... She reached down and gnawed a mosquito out of the fur on her leg, ...and I'm a little on edge.
The sun, despite the humidity, had risen now from behind a cloud, which seemed to make the floor Qa stood on as hot as standing on the sun its self. She jumped back and forth on both her legs until she jumped into a shadow that cloned the arch. Bah! she complained out loud, The gods are after me! What the hell did I do? Qa scowled at the sky.

Kaoru frowned and shrugged his thin shoulders, twitching a wing and wincing. He just hoped that the birds were okay . . . oh gods help him, the birds! Kaoru groaned aloud as if in some horrible agony, and shook his dial.
Sorry miss, but I can't stay out here any longer. There are some others that I need to take care of, and this temperature could be fatal. There was honest pain in the brute's purple eyes, and concern as well. You may want to come, it probably isn't healthy for an anubite with fur like yours to stay out in sunlight of this magnitude for too long. Not to mention himself; black fur didn't exactly ward off heat, it sucked it in. Worried eyes flicked between the fem to the edge of the lands, eager to go but hesitating to leave her after his earlier behavior.

Qa nodded her head in agreement. In her head she wondered what these...objects...were.
She stepped onto the boiling floor, literally hopping over to the stranger's side. The question of what the objects were didn't leave her mind or her mouth as things often did... but this anubite was kind enough to take her with...where ever he was going. it Qa's opinion she'd just like to leave this place. it's too hot! She didn't know head or tails of the way around here anyways, and she really hoped he knew where he was going.

Kaoru smiled at her, hoping it didn't look as strained as he felt. And quickly began to trot in one direction, though his anxiety got the better of him and soon the anubite was racing with greyhound agility across the yellowed plains. The edge of the forest loomed, and he skidded to a halt, grinding his paws in hard and looking around.
Dears? Where are you?
There was nothing, and he looked like he might cry, then there was some cheeping. Three little chicks stumbled out of a bush, and Kaoru went slack with relief.
Thank the gods . . .
He looked behind him, wondering how the fem was taking this. Probably thought he was psychotic, Kaoru thought offhandedly, without really caring.

Still running behind him, Qa halted around 5 yards away from her actual destination, panting heavily. Her coat was unreasonably tangled and frizzled from the running. She closed her eyes and said, Wow...You can run really fast...
Qa heard the cheeping as she finally caught her breath. She opened her eyes and looked down at the birds, half confused, half absorbed in how cute they looked standing next to the relieved stranger. She squealed.
Awww! She blurted, Are they yours? Where did they come from? She leaned her head closer to a chick with firework like feathers on his tail. I think this one's my favorite.

Kaoru was still panting with relief, and from the exertion of his run. He grinned weakly, touching the downy-soft chick with a suprisingly gentle paw on its head. This is Nadia, I found him awhile ago abandoned or lost in a cave. The other two, Rika and Sora. Got them from a human farm. Kaoru wheezed gratefully, scooping up Nadia gently and setting the ungainly, reddish chick on his dial. The other two gathered around their 'daddy's' legs, cheeping expectantly. Kaoru scooped up Sora, setting the golden chick on his back, and then Rika. They milled around. He looked at the other anubite.
I want to get them to the caves that I saw earlier, where it will be cooler. Their health is very delicate, they need us to protect them.

Qa smiled. I think that would be a great idea. But...You don't really look like the person who would be doing this sort of thing.
Qa attempted to think about the fact that he looked so ragged, but was so kind, but it was hopeless. Those birds and this strange anubite did mix quite well. They were really cute together, the chicks dancing around in the stranger's back.
Oh, By the way...I'm Qadesh. I was so busy looking at those cute little things and I forgot to introduce myself!Qa Chuckled, a bit of nervous blended in with the embarrassment of it.

Kaoru nodded, smiling as he looked up at her. He didn't want to think about how bad he must have looked. Probably like a barghest he thought with disgust, the smile held in place.
Sorry, me too. My name is Kaoru.
He stood from where he had been laying amidst the chicks, feeling then grip his wings tightly so that they did not fall off as he ran. We should go that way, towards the rock over there. He said, pointing with one gold-taloned claw.

Qa squinted at the bright gold claw, brighter in the sun. She then looked in the direction of which he was pointing. A rock. There was a single rock sitting there in the middle of the grass. a butterfly flew past it as Qe stared at the miniature boulder, her face struck with confusion.
...Why that particular rock? She asked, looking back over at Kaoru. Qa wasn't at all observant, and she knew it. She supposed because it was under a branch of a tree, but she would let Kaoru tell her. She liked the way he talked anyway.

Kaoru looked at her, foot thumping back to ground firmly in confusion. Pale eyes looked from her white features to the lithosphere, and a chuckle bubbled past his lips. The anubite slapped a paw over his face, still giggling quietly, and pointed out, across the long golden-brown grass, towards a distant ridge that looked blue against the color-washed horizon. Heat shimmers distorted the homely structures, which looked so amazing up close.
There, we must go there.

Qa chuckled nervously and looked down at her paws. For a while she stood there and stared at her unusually small feet, but she broke her trance laughing nervously again.
Lead the way Kaoru. Qa announced to him. She still had no clue where they were going, but to end the confusing and embarrassing moment, she stopped and waited for Kaoru and his cute little fluffy birdies to pass so she could follow.
Then, Qa's stomach began to yell monstrously at her. She was struck with fear for a few seconds before she realized it was her stomach and not a scary something-or-other.

Koaru nodded, a shadow of a smile twitching one velvet upward. Then turned and trotted at a moderate pace towards the hazy blue ridge in the distance. The chicks clung tight to the anubite's slick back, rising up and down with the bumping of musculature. Misty purple eyes were fixed on the rock, as it got closer. He didn't hear her behind him yet, and hoped she would hurry up.
Not that he didn't like her, he just felt a little guilty that he hadn't been acting his normal self and she couldn't possibly know what kind of person he was. The anubite sniffed disgustedly; he didn't even look his normal self. But Qa seemed nice, and Kaoru hoped she didn't run off.
