The white and black manen gazed over the edge of the cliff, his pale pink eyes taking in the huge crescent moon above and the raging waters in the riverbed below. He hated himself. Moons ago, he had betrayed his brother. The pink-eyed wolf looked at the grass between his feet. It was nearly the same color as his young brother’s eyes. Lately, all he had been able to think about was his brother.
When his two sons had been born, he had begun to contemplate his sibling again for the first time in years. Both of the pups possessed his brother’s brindle and his brother’s same set of jewelry: two black studs with silver hoops, two silver bracelets and a silver amulet around the neck with silver casing. As his sons grew, the pack slowly turned against him. There was violence and turmoil. He constantly was on the lookout for an attack from the former members of his pack. His mate no longer seemed to care for him. It was his fault, though. Thinking about his brother, the wolf had realized how huge a mistake he had made. His heart became hollow, and he no longer was truly himself. He had made the decision to send his sons away.
The two pups returned from frolicking in the forest one day to see their father lying near the steep cliff that bordered the riverbed. He called to them and they sat at his side. He told them the story of his brother, and how he had sent away the uncle his pups had never met. He knew he couldn’t avoid the attacks forever, and the pups were growing increasingly tired of always being cautious wherever they went. He told his sons to leave. He told them to go quickly and quietly through the forest to find their uncle. The large white and black manen described his brother to the pups: a massive wolf with intense green eyes and a thick coat of black and gray brindle. Brenac’s last words to his sons were find Kelil.
