The rain poured down hard on the trees. Thats odd, Shadow thought, puzzled. Why is it raining now? Its the middle of summer! Nevertheless, the dawn sky was covered with dark clouds, casting ominous shadows onto the soaked ground. He gave himself a shake, but to no avail. His thick, glossy fur was wet and plastered to his sides, making him look smaller. In the distance he heard the waterfall's loud thudding as the river took a deep dive of the edge of the cliff. He was following Soria's faint scent. Where does she think shes going? He wondered curiously. Where would anyone want to go on a day like this beside to sleep? He was drawing nearer to the falls. The crashing waters noise level doubled as walked out of the thick foest and into the clearing where the river made its leap. His violet eyes flashed. 'Is that Soria...?' He wondered out loud. He was downwind of her so she didn't catch his scent right away. Shadow was about to call out to her before a darker shape emerged from behind the falls. The creature sped up the rocks towards Soria. She turned and ran out across the meadow and into the woods. Shadow's eyes widened. That's Torien! He realized with a jolt. What was he doing in the caves behind the falls? Shadow began to follow the two wolves. They were running fast, and the branches whipped back and forth as the creatures darted through them. The Rain poured on. Why was Torien chasing her? And what reason did she have to run away? Shadow was confused. Then he realized. What was Torien doing in those caves. Soria must have seen something that wasen't supposed to be seen! He realized with a sickening jolt. They were running along the edge of the falls and Shadow realized that they were coming up to a dead end. The waterfall was steapest here. He crouched at the edge of the forest and watched in horror as Torien advanced towards Soria, who had been forced to stop at the edge of the falls. Shadow diden't dare go near them for he had never been taught to swim. Soria spun around and faced Torien, her eyes glazed with terror. 'Why did you follow me, Soria?' Torien asked her, baring his teeth in a snarl. Soria lifted her chin up higher in defience despite her trembling. 'I have a right to go wherever I want to go on Mleenleg territory!' She replied evenly. Her courage was outstanding. 'You shouldn't have.' Torien told her simply, and launched himself at her. Soria let out a cry of terror. Torien was a tail-length away from her when Shadow crashed into him from the side, barreling Torien -and himself- over the falls. 'Wait for me!' Shadow howled as he and Torien went crashing down the falls and into the deep rocky river below. 'Wait for me!' The clouds began to clear as the dawn light streamed through the gray and the rain began to thin out. Soria stared down the at the falls, trembling harder than ever. She threw her head up into the air and let out an ear-splitting howl that sent all of the birds crashing out of the places in the trees. 'Shadow!'
