Carefully he set one black velveteen paw on the scalding hot rock, and with a wince pulled himself up. one foot in front of the other, the anubite trudged up the rough structure. He passed several dark holes, decorated at the entrances with feathers and strings of beads. Most had partial doors made of mud plastered over them, making the gaping holes smaller and cooler in the powerful heat of the summer sun.
The anubite passed the first row, and toiled up to the second story. He continued, pushing all the way to the fourth row. There was an empty cave near the middle of the row; and with a sigh of relief the overheated Kaoru side-stepped into the darkness. It was not spacious, but would do. He lay down, letting the peacock chicks clamber off his back and begin to scamper around. The opening was fairly small to begin with, he would not need any plaster. Keen eyes pointed forward, the new resident strode to the back of the cave, nosing at a wall to check the stench. It crumbled away, the quickness of age shoving it away. Curious, he looked inside and was both pleased and astonished to see several little bedding piles of grass. They were no longer fresh, but age had made them sweet and fragrant. He smiled, squeezing through the narrow entrance and crowding them all together into a single pile. They would do well for the chicks.
Finished with this, Kaoru edged out and padded to the front of the cave, sitting in plain sight for Qadesh to find.

Qadesh hopped upon the stone wall a few minutes after Kaoru had. She was always a bit slow, and being that she had her long, sugary coat, she was panting as if it were 140 degrees out there.
She jumped off the wall quickly and landed softly on the floor. Qa gazed at all the caves lined on the walls open-mouthed and wondered how Kaoru could have possibly known his way around this maze called land.
Hearing the sound of Kaoru's chicks, Her head snapped toward the direction of the cave, where he was sitting.
He sure looks triumphant. Qa thought, finding her way to where he was sitting. When she arrived, she sat down in the same way he was, teasingly.

Kaoru staqred at her mimicking him, made a face, and relaxed shiftily as if to say 'like I would ever be that full of myself. His little frown deepened and the anubite was suddenly all over himself, cleaning out the matted velvet black fur.
Damn! Can't stand this anymore!
He muttered up at her while cleaning out his fur and wings, shaking himself out and repeating the process. When he straightened up, the anubite looked much improved if still a little out of sorts. The now almond-shaped purple eyes in the angular face watched her blankly, the short velvety fur shone in the midafternoon blaze that was the sun. Kaoru really was handsome, in a slightly puny, lithe way. There seemed to be an air of confidence and certainty around him, though, now that he had his pets somewhere safe and shady. Seeming to return to himself, the anubite blinked and addressed her.
You don't live here yet, right?

That's right. Qa replied hesitantly. She did not understand Kaoru completely, and that's why she was following him. He wasn't normal...or what Qa defined as normal, and it intrigued her. Her parents were alywas normal, as was everyone else she met.
She looked over at him and smiled, although the sun was beating her senseless with it's boiling rays. Her mind raced as she looked at him. She hardened her expression without harsh intent and questioned him,
Why?....Do you live here?

Ah.
He frowned slightly, narrowing his eyes against the harsh sunlight. They were focused on her intently, and anyone asked will ascertain that Kaoru had a very intense personality. It almost always translated in his expression and body language, just as it did in his 'stare'. The pale lilac optics broke away, he shrugged slightly.
I was hoping you could tell me who the alpha is; but I suppose that they will show themselves in time.
He wasn't condemning her or blaming anything on her, simply expressing a mild dissapointment in the alpha for not being more punctual. Having been one himself--Kaoru stopped the thought in its tracks, lifted it free, and pitched it away. Far away. The eyes snapped back to Qa's again, lilac meeting blue. He smiled, trying to be friendly. It was hard while his mind was side-tracked with what the pretty fem would probably think of him if she knew everything.
So, you just got here? It seems a nice land but a bit hot for my tastes . . . He made a face. Way too hot for his tastes, but it could be a record breaker? Who knows!

Qa looked suspiciously at Kaoru. He seemed sorrowful almost...or angry. She usually can't tall between the two.
I-I'm not usually in hot places like this. It sure seems like you've been around here before though. She looked up into his lavender optics, shinig in the sun.
It's probably his instinct. I'm outta that. Qa watched a lonely ladybug run into one pebble on the rocky floor around 10 times. It frustrated Qa, so she ate it. Wasn't very good, but at least her stomach would shut up for once. The gods seemed to be enraged at this act, because there was a sudden gust of sandy wind. Qa scowled in it's direction once it passed, and laughed once out of her nose without smiling.
Sometimes Qadesh wished she weren't so arrogant. (ooc: haha I don't know if you've read them, but Kaoru reminds me a little tiny bit of Hagrid from the Harry Potter series. rofl -Lemoney is so nerd-)

((. .. what? o__o;; Kiyo must try to express his character more better xD;; Kao is supposed to be sexay evil guy XD having a bad day.)) He opened his mouth, and the words were drowned in the quiet, throaty chuckles when she ate the lady bug. He was sitting just inside of the entrance of his new home, and was lucky enough to avoid the gritty desert wind that smelt Qa. He looked at her in earnest, calmly summing her up and comparing himself to her. She was very beautiful, in a sugary, delicately strong way. He was slightly taller than her even though he was short for the average male, and much thinner in appearance. Kaoru was very vain about his size, tending to eat little and move copiously to form his phsique into what it was; thin, lean, and attractively muscular.
Completing his musing, his gaze broke off and watched the rock where the ladybug had been a moment before. A wry smile twisted the thin black velvets, showing long, gleaming white fangs.

Qa felt him staring at her, and through the corner of her sapphire eye, she witnessed his smile.
Do I look good from behind or what? She wondered, a smirk soon spreading over her lips as well. The thought of her being pretty to someone else made her want to ask him if he thought she was, but after thinking it over, Qa decided to not be nosy. Or ask something that stupid for that matter. The fae was sure he would leave her company if she asked him so. She laid her head on the floor between her paws and closed her eyes. She felt the coolness of a lonely cloud as it passed over the sun in utter silence. Waiting for the alpha better not give me a big ugly sunburn. She sneered to herself.

He smirked slightly, the black librums spreading into the expression quickly and effortlessly. You could sit inside if you want, there's plenty of room. The black anubite indicated the narrow entrance, he sitting off to one side of it. The dim dark of the cave looked attractive to him, at least, when it was so hot outside. The faint cheepings of the birds were audible to the anubites' sensitive, large harks. Pale orbs danced over the plain gray-black rock and decided that it would not due. As soon as it cooled down he would have to find some sort of decorations.

Qa slowly opened her left eye to see Kaoru still smirking. Again, it put one on her face as well as she steadily raised to her feet. Turning around, she said to him, So, Kaoru, Qa paused for a while as she moved sleepily into the cool shadows of the cave.
Where do you come from? She continued as she lay down on the cool stony floor. It felt good to rest in the shade. The gentle peeps of the chicks nearly lulled her to sleep, but she raised her head quickly so not to doze off. Qa glanced up at Kaoru and awaited his reply.

Hn?
He seemed a little taken aback by the question at first, jerking slightly as the pale eyes widened slightly. He recovered himself quickly, though, watching Qa testily. The anubite shrugged, fangs catching a sliver of sunlight from the cave entrance.
Nowhere, really. I lived with a . . . different tribe before I came her. But this should make a good home, if the alpha ever shows up.
Certainly he had. A tribe of anubites and anubite hybrids; a sin no others would tolerate. But he had, and he had taken them in and given them sympathy because no one else had. That didn't really make him a good anubite though; he was still a bit ashamed of the action.
As they always did Kaoru's thoughts wandered to them. He wondered how they were doing; how Gauze was doing. How Sleazoid was doing. The little shit better be taking care of Brainpan . . .

Qa sighed as a dry wind blew sand across the lands. There was a slight pause, What if the alpha is dead? Or there is no alpha? She interrogated, half talking to herself, half talking to Kaoru.
Qa moved her orbs over to the other caves, they were desolate and bare with dried grass exploding from their corners. Qa tried to imagine once when the caves were loaded with happy anubite families and children playing everywhere...or maybe it was always deserted...

Kaoru twitched, thinking deeply about the alpha. Surely Qadesh's words made sense; the lands seemed to be dusty and forsaken. Was there not a good chance that the alpha had deserted? He thought long and hard, but his resolution was already intact. He would not take the lands, he did not want that kind of responsibility. Kaoru may have been power-hungry; but he wasn't stupid enough to miss the significant differences between hybrids and purebreds. The hybrids wanted-needed-leadership. A regular anubite would rebel, unafraid of ruffling their leader. He would stay behind on this one.
We should just hope, and even if there is no alpha surely someone will come along eventually.

Mm
Qadesh's gaze was now set upon the sun, slowly sinking under the horizon. She didn't mean to totally ignore what Kaoru had said, for her mind was in all different directions, and realizing this, she let out an exasperated sigh. Her tail twitched and she folded back her pointed ears. Impatience was certainly not a blessing.
The sun god was now near his time of death, and the stars began to twinkle on the opposing side of the sky. Underneath the cave was chilled slightly, as if the moon brought out winter in the blessed land before Kaoru and Qadesh. Qa glanced backward at Kaoru, his muscular wings barely touching his back, and underneath them, a bright red sunburn.
My mom told me how to heal that.... She said aloud to herself. Qa was a bit tired, and she was beginning to spit nonsense.

A-ha! ^^ Finally found a picture! This is who Kaoru is based on!! here omg omg click here?!?!Kaoru turned slightly, his face was swallowed by shadow; the left eye and angles dissapeared into the blackness. The ghostly pale eyes were fixed with an unreadable expression on the horizon, watching the golden disc that was the sun vanish slowly over the blue horizon. The clouds above were turned brilliant shades of yellow and orange; silhoutted in flame. Qadesh said something, the anubite's harks pricked.
My mom told me how to heal that....
He was reminded abruptly of Gauze. The small, painfully twisted hybrid had often said that. Kaoru realized that she was talking about his burn, and shifted uncomfortably. He didn't really like to be touched.
