Yami crawled silently through the bush, not daring to make a sound. It was spring and a dangerous time for her, her white coat and gold earring made her stick out like a boy in a girls locker room. Kicked out from the Zeftolen Tribe, she had been trying to make the best of things. Now she crept through the brush by the East Side of the River, if she was seen she could be killed. Suddenly a careless move, followed by the snapping of a twig made her flinch. She quickly darted her head back and forth making sure no one had heard and came to investigate. But the huge shadow of something large made her heart skip a beat.

Democoon stepped from his cover behind a bush, fearing the worst. His mate, Aglaia, followed reluctantly. It was obvious they were looking for a place to live. They needed the shelter of a pack soon because Aglaia's swelling belly looked like it could burst at any moment. Democoon looked the interesting wolf up and down and decided she was no threat to the two of them. He was dazzled by her coat, his was dirty and very unappealing. Democoon had so many questions on his mind, like: Are you from here? Can you get us into a pack? He knew it would be very rude to interrogate her, so instead he barked quietly, "Hello, I'm Democoon, this is Aglaia." The pregnant wolf straightened herself up at the mention of her name. "Hello."

Yami was speechless, she didn't know what to say. All she hoped was that theses two Manen Wolf weren't from the Larasopu Tribe or the Zeftolen Tribe. If they were she could be killed. She trembled and shook, just a pup, she didn't have many fighting skills if these were enemy's. She only hoped and prayed as she asked them "Where are you from?"

Aglaia, hearing the fear in Yami's voice, stepped forward. "We aren't from anywhere around here." She wanted to comfort the younger Manen, but she knew the poor thing was frightened enough without being soothed by a complete stranger.
All of Democoon's hopes of Yami being their key to acceptance disappeared. It was obvious that she was not supposed to be there. He started to fidget, a habit of his that occurred when he was losing patience. He wished that Aglaia would just leave the pitiful thing alone and search for a home elsewhere. Time was running out.

[I'm the alpha, my old topics were deleted...] Suddenly a shadow passed overhead and a large black and cream manen landed a short distance away from the little group. He was an unusual specimen, though, for on his back were two pairs of wings rather than one. There was the regular pair, but folded beneath these were a second, stouter, pair that could lock for long distance soaring. The strange male seemed confident and not at all concerned by his unusual features and as he approached there was a slight swagger in his step. He had an air about him that said he was in charge and didn't need to prove it, but would if he had to. When he spoke, his lyrics were smooth and kind. "Hello. My name is Fethyr. May I ask your purpose in my lands?"

Democoon and Aglaia's faces lit up. They groveled at his feet, showing their willingness to become pack members.
Democoon completely forgot about Yami, all he wanted was for he and Aglaia to be safe. The male looked in envy at the leader's wings. His bare back was nothing. Ever since Democoon was born, he was thought a failure because he didn't have the match to a brown stud. He had been a bitter child because of this. Timidly, he said, "I'm Democoon."
Aglaia gazed in wonder at the alpha. His kindness made her wish Democoon could be like him. She remembered how sometimes he would snap at her, aiming at her swollen belly. She unconsciously moved a bit away from him. "Aglaia." she whispered.

Yami's heart skipped a beat for the second time that day. This could her death. She was kicked out from this packs arch enemy's tribe, and now the alpha was asking her what she was doing on his land. She needed to get out of here, she had to get out of here! Yami thought maybe she could sneak away. So she slowly started toward the bushes, her only hope of survival.

Democoon didn't notice Yami's leave, his mind was spinning with the prospect of good fortune. He looked eagerly at the double-winged marvel for acceptance.
Aglaia, however, had been focusing on the strangely behaving wolf since they met. Obviously the stunning animal was uncomfortable here. She looked over at Fethyr to see if he had noticed the peculiar nature of Yami. Seeing no recognition in his eyes, she decided to ignore Yami's departure. For some reason, she wanted the younger creature to be as safe as possible, and that probably meant her getting out of there fast.
She looked down at her round belly and sighed. If only she could ensure the safety of her pups.

Fethyr smiled. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Aglaia, Demacoon." He nodded to each politely, then turned to the small white pup, who appeared to be trying to escape. "And what is your name, little one?" Fethyr had a fondness for pups, having raised his daughter and her best friend himself. This child seemed in trouble and afraid of something, and Fethyr immediately decided he would find out what! The alpha hoped the adult pair was looking for acceptance, and based on the way they were groveling, chances were he was right, but he decided to let them speak for themselves.

"Um, sir," Democoon barked timidly, "Aglaia and I are looking to find a pack and shelter. Will you accept us?" He didn't dare speak of Aglaia's unborn pups. She was quite noticeably pregnant, though, so there was no hiding that.
Aglaia saw Fethyr's softness for Yami. She wondered if Democoon would act similarly to his pups.
Yami's interesting nature made Aglaia constantly glance sideways at her. The pup's expression was unreadable, so the soon to be mother turned her attention back to Fethyr, waiting for his reply.
The wolf's cream coat moved as if it was alive in the blowing wind. "It's going to rain soon." she barked.

Yami was speechless, she didn't know how to react. She stumbled over words but managed to get out "I..I..I'm Yami" and then ever so quietly added "from the Zeftolen Tribe".

Democoon heard the weight on her words and perked up. Suddenly he was interested in Yami. Hopefully she wouldn't upset the leader and crush their chances of joining.
Aglaia listened and didn't see what the big deal was. Well, besides the fact that Yami was from another tribe. Democoon and Aglaia had been living as loners until she became pregnant, so they were clueless about the tribes' differences. Aglaia cocked her head slightly.
Vicious looking clouds gathered overhead, as if to add emphasis.

She had seen Democcon and Aglaia glance over at her when she had said she was from the Zeftolen Tribe. She didn't know why. She just hung her head and waited for Fethyr to answer

Aglaia and Democoon also waited for Fethyr's reply to their plea.
Democoon, naturally impatient, started scuffing in the dirt. This was the only way to relieve some stress for him. He looked over at Aglaia to see how she was faring. Deep inside he did care for her, but his father had never displayed much affection toward his mother, so Democoon had always thought it was a sign of weakness.
Aglaia was lying down with her head between her paws. Carrying the extra weight of her pups made her feet hurt and her back ache. She could only try not to doze off.
Democoon saw Aglaia shivering against the wind and cold. He could not leave his love like that, weakness or no. He curled up beside her and licked her ear.

Yami watched Demcoon and Aglaia. Sometimes she wished someone would show affection towards her, just maybe care somehow. Nobody but her mother and siblings had ever been nice to here shown that they cared. But they were gone, forever, and there was nothing she could do about it. She had been lucky to escape. Yami had never known here father. She sometimes wondered where he was if he was still out there. She sorta hoped he was. but what difference did it have? None. She would never find him, it was hopeless. All she could do was stand there and silently weep until she came to an end.
